How Ready Are You?

It’s time to go Cie, are you ready? I get asked that question quite often from my husband as we are preparing to go to an event or out to dinner. My response most times is…I’m getting there, almost.
I’ve heard it said that success occurs when opportunity meets preparation. Are you ready for success? Many of us want success, but are we willing to do what needs to be done in order to be ready for the successful outcomes we say we want.
Cicely Tyson, an actress, auditioned for the leading role in the movie “Sounder”. The casting director told her she had been selected for the teacher role. Tyson asked why didn’t I get the leading role. The director told her that she was too young, pretty and sophisticated to play the leading role of a mother and wife. Not dismayed Tyson went home to prepare for the mother-wife role.

Finally, Tyson received a phone call from the director’s assistant who told her they had decided to give her the leading role. Tyson said “okay”. The assistant responded “aren’t you excited?”. Tyson said “no. I knew I had the role I was just waiting for you to find out”.
How ready are you to receive that promotion, plumb assignment, entrepreneurial opportunity or lucrative pay raise? What would it take for you to be ready? Would it take extra effort, extra responsibilities, more commitment on your part?
If you aren’t ready, then start now to get prepared. So, when the opportunity comes to you to be interviewed or make a presentation or submit a proposal, you’ll have the necessities to compete to win. Don’t allow fear, laziness, or procrastination to cheat you out of your desired destiny. Get ready now!
